Doctors for Healthy Communities (DHC) participated in sports physicals at Marion C. Moore High School of Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) in Louisville, KY on July 14th, 2021. Thank you to everyone involved, especially to the tireless and amazing work of Mary Texas, APRN, FNP JCPS; Dr. Eva Stone, DNP, APRN Manager of District Health JCPS; Karen Hayse of the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation, volunteer nurse practitioners and nursing students from Sullivan University.
They gave 20 COVID-19 vaccines & performed around 114 sports physicals for students. Volunteers were able to identify various needs like unreported health concerns, mental health concerns and failed vision screening. Appropriate referrals were made for any areas of concern.

Mary Texas, APRN, FNP, JCPS summarized the day very well, saying:
“It’s fair to say it was a very productive day. The students and parents were all so patient and appreciative. Not a single complaint was made about the wait, at least not that I heard, and I haven’t heard “thank you” so often in a very long time. Exhausting, but rewarding day.”
